Kerry County Board Chairman, Sean Walsh has been elected Vice Chairman of the Munster Council at the Annual Convention of Comhairle Na Mumhan, held in Lismore, Co. Waterford on March 2nd.
Sean didn't enter the contest as favourite but he showed his popularity right across the province after cleaning up in the transfer of vote to see him succeed Waterford's Jimmy O'Gorman, who takes over as chairman from Tipperary's Sean Fogarty. Sean returned to a rapturous welcome in Brosnan's Bar after his victory. We have included here a snippet of the celebrations.

Boghole Boys
In 2004, Gabriel Fitzmaurice presented a radio show on Radio Kerry called 'The Boghole Boys'. Most of North Kerry were glued to the wireless each Monday night to hear the stories, songs, music and poems being performed by people from Moyvane, Knockanure and the surrounding parishes.
Here are the full recordings from four of our pubs along with another show where some of the more famous local poets and singers performed in the studio. All audio downloads are in Windows Media Audio format (.wma).
Radio Kerry's Kerrywide show
Sean Hurley presents the popular Kerrywide show on Radio Kerry each Sunday evening at 9pm.
The show seeks out the best in traditional music stories and song through out the county which are in old rambling house style and is most popular with listeners at home and abroad.
Sean has presented a couple of shows from the Moyvane/Knockaure area and we plan to feature more local talent from these shows in the future.
Leo Finucane Interview
Moyvane Plebiscite
Moyvane is unusual in that three of our establishments refer to different names of the village - Murhur National School, Moyvane Post Office and Newtownsandes Co-op. The Village Development Association are gearing up to have a second plebiscite to make Moyvane the legally recognised name on the register of electors and bring to an end more than a century of name-changing. The name Moyvane was adopted by the village in 1939 when Father O'Sullivan, who was the Parish Priest at the time and he had hoped that "Newtownsandes be given a Christian burial". However, Newtownsandes remained on as the name of the village's electoral division.
In December 2000, the Development Association launched a plebiscite to make Moyvane the official name, but it failed because less than half the population voted in favour of the change. Click here to view a 5 minute RTE documentary on the name change (5mbs - Real Video file)

Dan Keane hoped then that their plebiscite plans had not gone up in smoke like the poem he wrote about the landlord whom Newtownsandes is named after.
When Georgie Sandes went down to hell the Devil got the thongs,
Saying a long time I have waited to roast this tyrant Sandes.
The poor he hunted from their beds, the rich he robbed and broke,
And now he'll be tormented with plenty of fire and smoke.
Now 5 years later, they are hoping that a second plebiscite will be successful with the majority of the Moyvane population expected to vote for the name change. Recently, Gabriel Fitzmaurice explained to Pat Kenny on RTE Radio One, the many aspects of the plebiscite and the multiple village names used down through our history. Irish Life and Lore

2003 North Kerry Senior Champions
Moyvane - champions of North Kerry for the 18th time in an illustrious club history stretching back to the heydays of Con Brosnan in the 1920's. They beat Castleisland Desmonds in the Final by a scoreline of 10 points to 8 points.
2003 will go down as a memorable year with Moyvane also winning the North Kerry League - the first time the club has won the Senior Double since 1961.
Tim Kennelly
The Legendary footballer Tim Kennelly passed away on December 7th - a great loss to Listowel and North Kerry. The people of Moyvane would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. In honour of the great man, our own Gabriel Fitzmaurice penned a few verses that wonderfully describe 'The Horse'!
Weeshie Fogarty put together a memorable two hour Terrace Talk show in early January remembering Tim - the footballer, son, brother and father.

Kerry - 2004 All Ireland Champions
Congratulations to the Kingdom on bringing Sam Maguire back home for the 33rd time. After the disappointments of the past few years, Kerry left their critics speechless with a spellbinding performance that overwhelmed Mayo on the day. Moyvane didnt have any players on the panel but we were delighted to see other North Kerry men like Eamonn Fitzmaurice, Paul Galvin, Paddy Kelly and Brendan Guiney contribute to the win. Our own Sean Walsh had another magnificent year as Chairman of the Kerry County Board.
Dara O'Cinneide was a great captain and crowned the day with an inspiring acceptance speech all in Gaelic.
"Ta an broduil orm an corn sin a glacadh.....
do lucht peileidoiri, do lucht roghneoiri, do lucht tachaiocht, an Riocht"
Here are some video clips containing highlights of the great scores of the game (including some of Ciaran Macdonald's fabulous scores).

Miscellaneous Kerry Audio Clips
"Bob Doyle who knew his football swore that we'd win by a goal,
The tailor felt we'd get there by a street,
And myself, may God forgive me, thought by twenty points or so,
'Wisha five or six is plenty' says John Pete.
'Their backs will never hold us if they lepped up to the moon,'
And Dave Hanley nodded wisely at Pat Clarke.
All the experts had the scoreboard chalked up ere the ball was thrown,
in the Ghost Train steaming proudly for Croke Park."
